Getting ready among the greenery

Kelli and Chris began their elopement day at La Paz Waterfall Gardens, getting ready surrounded by lush greenery and the sound of the forest. The mood before the ceremony was calm and full of anticipation.

Vows in front of the waterfall

The scene then moved to a waterfall that served as the backdrop for their intimate ceremony. Kelli and Chris exchanged vows to the sound of falling water, with mist from the falls in the air.

The rush of the falls filled the ceremony, and the photographs keep that sense of two people at ease in a big landscape.

Portraits under the trees, and a hike

After the ceremony, the photographs move between glances under the canopy of trees and quiet moments with the waterfall behind them.

The day did not end with the vows. Kelli and Chris hiked and explored, and those frames became part of the story too. Late in the day, warm light settled over the landscape.

Planning notes for a waterfall elopement

This is inspiration from one real elopement, not a promise about conditions, access or rules on another date. Confirm the details with the venue.

  1. Expect mist and damp air.

Mist from the falls was part of the atmosphere at Kelli and Chris’s ceremony. It is worth planning clothing, hair and any paper vows with damp air in mind.

  2. Leave time after the ceremony.

Kelli and Chris hiked and explored after their vows, and those photographs became part of the story. A relaxed schedule gives that kind of time.

  3. Ask the venue what is available.

La Paz Waterfall Gardens lists weddings on its official site. Ask the venue what is available on your date and where a ceremony and photography can take place.

  4. Tell us what kind of day you want.

Quiet and close, or active and adventurous: the plan and the photographs follow from that. Our elopement photography page is a good place to start.
